V/H/S/Beyond‘s Trailer Promises a Rip-Roaringly Gruesome Found-Footage Ride
V/H/S/Beyond is the latest installment in the V/H/S series, which has released seven films since the first one in 2012. Each film is a horror anthology made up of found-footage shorts directed by different filmmakers, usually tied together by a framing story. The series is known for using the texture and format of VHS tapes to create a nostalgic yet terrifying atmosphere.
The trailer for V/H/S/Beyond showcases snippets from five shorts, each with a different theme and style, but all filled with gore and suspense. The trailer begins with a mysterious voice playing a tape and saying, "You are about to witness something you've never seen before." Then the scene cuts to a woman tied to a chair, her face covered in blood, struggling to escape.
The trailer then presents clips from the five shorts:
- "The Scourge" directed by David Bruckner, who worked on V/H/S and V/H/S/94. This short tells the story of a group of people searching for a legendary demon in an abandoned building, only to encounter something more terrifying than the demon itself.
- "Dreamkill" directed by Scott Derrickson, known for directing Doctor Strange and The Black Phone. This short follows a man who can foresee others' deaths, trying to stop a serial killer, only to find himself caught in a larger conspiracy.
- "No Wake" directed by Mike P. Nelson, who directed Wrong Turn: Bloodlines. This short depicts a group of young people on a lakeside vacation, attacked by a mysterious sniper, struggling to survive.
- "Ambrosia" directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero, known for directing Culture Shock and Bingo Hell. This short tells the story of a woman kidnapped by a cult, forced to participate in a bloody ritual, only to discover she possesses a special power.
- "God of Death" directed by Natasha Kermani, who directed Lucky and Imitation Girl. This short follows a couple on vacation, accidentally entering an ancient tomb, releasing a long-dormant god, and triggering an apocalyptic disaster.
V/H/S/Beyond will premiere on Shudder on October 4, marking Shudder's first original film. Shudder is a streaming service platform focused on horror, thriller, and supernatural genres, offering a vast collection of classic and new horror films and series.
